How BAL came to be
BAL originated from the idea of making a state like balance visible.
Through this, I not only explored the concept of balance but also the rituals surrounding such states. I sought this state for myself. But I didn't just want to find it – I wanted to create it.
And that's exactly what I found in the process:

How can I connect two opposites in such a way that something replicable for everyone emerges?
The object shouldn't just work for me. It should go out into the world. I wanted to share the thoughts behind it and create the opportunity to make balance visible every day, and then precisely when someone is already engaged with it.
It quickly became clear to me that it would be an object for the practice of incense burning and meditation. It also quickly became apparent that this state depends on several factors: environment, product, and incense sticks. BAL is therefore reduced to the essentials – both for production and for use.
Temporary calm gives you balance. Constant calm takes it away from you.
You have to do something. And in return, it needs its counterpart.
Afterward, the base form was developed – both digitally and analogously with modeling clay.
For me, hands are the best tool to discover new forms. At the same time, they are the fastest tool to change a form again: cutting, pressing, sanding, adding, removing, and much more.
This is how one approaches a form step by step. Not all of it can be planned digitally at the beginning. Some forms only emerge through the act of creation itself.
And that ultimately leads to the form that always emerges in the studio through the process.

BAL therefore did not originate from a single idea on a computer.
This sculptural incense holder emerged from a thought that slowly became visible through many forms, materials, attempts, and changes.
Balance was not only designed here. It was developed in such a way that it can be replicated.
Balance is not something you find. It is something you create.
