Details
- Design and Production – Tim, stdio3D, Wolfsburg.
- Object with stainless steel insert
Printed from metal-filled HTPLA, heat-treated, hand-finished. Each object is made to order – so surface and tone vary slightly from piece to piece.
Two materials, two answers to the same question:
Bronze changes. It oxidizes, darkens, absorbs what happens around it. An object about balance that looks different after two years than it did on the first day – because balance is not a state that you achieve and then keep.
Stainless steel endures. It maintains its tone, its edge, its surface. Balance as something you repeatedly bring back to the same point.
Which answer is correct is not decided by the material. But by the person who displays it.
Dimensions and Specifications
- Length – 60 mm
- Width – 42 mm
- Height – 22 mm
- Weight, Origin (bronze) – 37 g
- Weight, Precision (stainless steel) – 37 g
Suitable for incense sticks up to Ø 2 mm.
BAL is deliberately not a closed container.
Material and Manufacturing
- Material Origin (Bronze) – HTPLA with real bronze powder. Density 2.3 g/cm³ – almost double that of pure PLA. The surface can be brushed, sanded, and polished to a mirror finish. And it doesn't stay as it is: bronze oxidizes and develops a patina over time.
- Material Precision (Stainless Steel) – HTPLA with 70% 400 series stainless steel powder. When brushed, sanded, or polished, a genuine metal finish is created that maintains its condition.
Both versions are printed using the FDM process and then heat-treated. Visible print layers remain as a characteristic of the process. The stainless steel insert is located where the embers sit, as with all BAL products.
Care and Instructions
- Embers and ash fall onto the designated surface; a rim keeps them contained and protects the table.
- Do not place a burning incense stick directly on the surface.
- Bronze darkens over time. If you want to maintain the light tone, polish it occasionally with a dry cloth; if you prefer a patina, let it develop naturally.
- Metal-infused PLA is more brittle than plain PLA. It handles everyday use without trouble – just don't drop it.
- Deliberately not a closed container.
Incense sticks not included.
Meaning
How does balance become visible in an object?
BAL translates a principle from practice into form. Not as a symbol, but as a state.
The focus is not on catching the ash, but on the relationship between stick and object.
BAL rests as long as no stick is in it.
Place a stick – and balance begins.
When it has burned down, pull out the rest. BAL settles back to rest.
The incense stick is not an accessory here.
It is the second component.
Steady, until you’re ready.
Object and packaging are made only once you order. Crafted for you, not pulled from a shelf.
Shipped within 4 working days.

Why our object is intentionally not effortless
BAL doesn't catch every bit of ash – by design. Why an object that demands something of us creates more balance than one that does everything for us.

What we don't do ourselves
The Ambrosia of Berk is not made by us – and that is exactly why we have been burning it for six years and are now selling it.
